Inuktitut, the language of the Inuit of the Eastern and Central Arctic, has been investigated repeatedly during the last decades. More recent research focuses on ergativity and consequently assumes a configurational syntactic structure for the language. Interestingly enough, all these investigations fail to identify noun phrase hierarchies.
Looking into subordination and coordination structures I will scrutinize functional categories and their morphological and syntactic status, respectively. Finally, I will propose a re-interpretation of the data which accounts for the problems mentioned and offers a homogeneous representation of Inuktitut.
